Cons: Marena should state clearly what the level of compression is on these. For those with POTS, circulation issues, lymphedema, etc. - that is important information. These are a quality garment, and you do get what you pay for, but I wish Marena would consider lowering the price point, as these garments are - for many - a medical necessity. Many patients who need to wear these garments daily, will struggle to afford them, and may not be able to replace them as often as they ideally should. Review and Comparison to Travel Leggings: I previously purchased the Travel Leggings, which are more expensive, but the "patella release" and the waist band design is more comfortable, though I think for me, it's better to have more support through the knee with the Compression leggings. That does mean they cut in a little behind the knee where they crease when sitting, but I need as much joint support as I can get, since my joints are prone to sublexation due to hEDS. (NOTE: These are not going to offer you the support of a knee brace, but the compression does have the added bonus of providing a small amount of joint support). To me, the compression feels the same in both styles. I wish the waist band on the Compression leggings was the same as on the Travel leggings. I also would appreciate a little bit stronger, graduated compression in the lower leg and up through the thigh, but the core compression level is already perfect, and I would not increase that. The material is the best I've seen for true compression leggings, and the fit is great. I'm 5'4," and the regular length is (almost) perfect. The short would be too short, since I am short-waisted with longer legs for my height. Their size chart is accurate. My measurements fall within the "M" on their chart, which is what I purchased, and they do fit correctly. I do recommend measuring your leg length. These are high waisted on me, which I like. The material is a little rough out of the package, and they do have a chemically/rubbery smell at first. Both of these issues resolved after a few washings. If you follow the laundering instructions given for all medical grade compression garments, these hold up well. Also, these are TRUE leggings, which is very hard to find. Most of the medical grade compression "leggings" out there, are really just thick tights. I greatly appreciate that the compression goes all the way through the core. Many graduated compression leggings/tights I have tried do not, which can cause pooling of fluid through the core, hips, thighs, and around the knees. I also find the compression through the hip/low back is helpful for me, again, due to hEDS, which makes my joints very painful and prone to sublexation. The little bit of extra support is much appreciated.
I actually bought the Sport leggings before trying the regular leggings. And this was after being given a pair of the post-surgical bottoms after a procedure. I know these are spendy, but I can assure you that I loved how tough the post-surgical leggings were. They are awesome. The Sport leggings are even better. They're squat-proof. And these? These are SO good. I feel snuggly compressed, but I don't feel packed in like a sausage. All three of the products I've got now are simply easy to wash, dry and wear. Marena knows what they're doing. Again, no, the garments are not cheap, but BELIEVE me- you are getting a quality product every time. In my opinion, I would recommend these to anyone!
I previously purchased the travel leggings from Marena, and I have worn them to death. I hate the price point, but you do "get what you pay for." Other companies advertise their tights as "leggings," but they are not true leggings. These are. The travel leggings are a 5 star for me, these are a 4 star. The patella release and waist band design really do make the travel leggings a bit more comfortable. I would say both are very much true to size. Marena does not state what the level of compression is, and I would like to know. Also, this is a "love it or hate it" thing, but these do compress the core as well. For those with POTS, like myself, this is a real benefit. Some graduated compression garments have zero compression by the time they get to your core, and you end up with fluid pooling in the upper legs, hips, around the knees, or abdomen. Because the compression goes all the way up through the core, this does not happen. For reference, I am 5'4", wear a size 6 jean, and the regular, size medium fit well. On me, they are high waisted and come up just under my bra - which I like. They do feel a little rough on the skin when first out of the package. Washing them does help. There is a slight chemical smell to them as well, but that goes away after a couple of washings. I wash on delicate, cold water, in garment bags, and hang to dry.
I'm very happy with all my Marena purchases and continue to wear their shape wear, workout leggings & travel leggings on a daily basis post op. Very well constructed with soft yet, strong fabric. Washes well and feels great!
These are so comfortable and supporting and fit perfectly, not binding.
